Jurivision is pleased to launch this new visual publication featuring a legal article from the Revue générale de droit. This innovative project is the result of a collaboration between Jurivision and the Revue, with financial support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). These visual publications help mobilize legal knowledge while highlighting the authors who publish their work in the journal.
In June 2023, Bill 12 came into force, introducing significant reforms to Quebec’s surrogacy laws. According to Quebec’s Minister of Justice, this bill sought to better reflect the needs and realities of Quebec families, to prioritize the best interests of children born through surrogacy and to protect the rights of surrogates.
Professor Carsley analyses the implications of these reforms for surrogates, intended parents and children born through surrogacy, and argues that these changes may have effects that run counter to lawmakers’ objectives.
These observations are drawn from her article, “Reforming Quebec’s Surrogacy Laws ” published in the Revue générale de droit.
