Legislative Bijuralism in Canada

In Canada, bijuralism generally refers to the interaction between Quebec’s private law system, the civil law, and that of the other provinces and territories, the common law. The implementation of the laws and regulations of the Parliament of Canada throughout Canada must deal with this mixed law reality, insofar as the civil law in Quebec and the common law in the other regions of the country. In the next few lessons, you will learn more about the origins of bijualism in the drafting of federal statues, bijuralism in federal legislation and the work of bijural revision of federal statutes.
