{"id":97226,"date":"2023-06-12T12:21:42","date_gmt":"2023-06-12T16:21:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jurivision.ca\/?p=97226"},"modified":"2023-06-13T09:18:39","modified_gmt":"2023-06-13T13:18:39","slug":"multidisciplinary-observatory-on-the-future-of-private-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jurivision.ca\/en\/multidisciplinary-observatory-on-the-future-of-private-law\/","title":{"rendered":"Multidisciplinary Observatory on the Future of Private Law"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Multidisciplinary Observatory on the Future of Private Law was launched in November 2022 at the University of Ottawa&#8217;s Faculty of Law, Civil Law Section. It is a magnet for graduate students, both as a forum for exchange between researchers from diverse backgrounds, and because of the scientific activities held there on a regular basis. Its work is at the heart of two fundamental orientations: the circulation of legal knowledge in the French-speaking world, and the promotion of the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in legal research and transformation.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The Observatory\u2019s activities revolve around three main questions: 1) What is the purpose of civil law in contemporary society? 2) What relationships does civil law have with other normative orders, such as the common law and aboriginal legal traditions? and 3) How is civil law different from other legal orders? <\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Research areas \u00a0<\/strong>&#13;\n&#13;\n<script src=\"moz-extension:\/\/5a8250d9-9455-46d4-b935-9298aceff4cb\/js\/app.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n<p>Three main lines of research are at the heart of the work carried out by the MOFPL during its first years of existence (2022-2025).  <\/p>\n\n<p><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\" lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\">For the <\/span><\/span><strong><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\" lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\">&#8220;<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">legal<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\"> existence and <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">liability<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\">&#8220;<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\" lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" data-contrast=\"auto\"> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">research<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\"> axis, in addition to the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">many<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">activities<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">organized<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">this<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">year<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\"> as part of <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">its<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">scientific<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\"> program, the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\">MOFPL<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\">\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">is<\/span> <span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">proud<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\"> to <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">announce<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\"> the <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">upcoming<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\"> publication of a <\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\" lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun CommentStart SCXW152398577 BCX2\"><em>Pr\u00e9cis en droit de la responsabilit\u00e9 civile<\/em><\/span><\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\" lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\">,<\/span> <\/span><span class=\"TextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\" lang=\"FR-FR\" xml:lang=\"FR-FR\" data-contrast=\"auto\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">co-edited<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\"> by <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">Mari\u00e8ve<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\"> Lacroix and Jos\u00e9e <\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SpellingErrorV2Themed SCXW152398577 BCX2\">Aspinall<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW152398577 BCX2\">, by \u00c9ditions Yvon Blais. <\/span><\/span>&#13;\n&#13;\n<script src=\"moz-extension:\/\/5a8250d9-9455-46d4-b935-9298aceff4cb\/js\/app.js\" type=\"text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n<p>In addition, Mari\u00e8ve Lacroix will complete the mobilization of knowledge from her research project: &#8220;La guerre des cendres&#8221;(The War of Ashes), funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) for two years ($57,323). In addition to scientific articles, a Visioformation entitled &#8220;An Ethics of Decomposition&#8221; in collaboration with Jurivision.ca which will go online in fall 2023.  <\/p>\n\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">For the <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">&#8220;care and the person&#8221; <\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">research axis, the MOFPL is proud to highlight the in the wake of a visit to Cameroon in 2022, Professors Andr\u00e9 B\u00e9langer and Julie Paquin are currently working to set up a collaboration between the University of Ottawa and the Universit\u00e9s de Montr\u00e9al (Pascale Dufour), (Pascale Dufour), Luxembourg (David Hiez and S\u00e9verine Menetry), Ngaound\u00e9r\u00e9 (Diane Wagoue Tongoue, Yannick Nkoulou and Marie-Colette Nouaffo-Kengne) and Bamako (Souleymane Diarra) on the theme of the circulation of contemporary francophone civil law knowledge. Under the honorary chairmanship of the Honourable Nicholas Kasirer, Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, the event provided an opportunity to reflect on the theme of women&#8217;s reproductive rights in private law, with contributions from Louise Langevin, professor at Universit\u00e9 Laval&#8217;s Faculty of Law, Laurence Ricard, lawyer and doctoral student at McGill&#8217;s Faculty of Law, and Audrey Ferron Parayre, professor at the University of Ottawa&#8217;s Civil Law Section. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Since its creation in 2022, the MOFPL has rallied over 70 members from a wide variety of backgrounds, active in Quebec and Canada as well as abroad.
