By challenging dominant narratives about race and its intersections with gender, class and disability, CRT provides powerful insights into how different forms of oppression and racism operate in society. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>\u201cCritical Race Theory, like Indigenous legal theory, and third-world approaches to international law, amongst other critical perspectives, emanates from a recognition of how law can be used to reify social hierarchy, and a specific desire to identify and challenge that use with a view to improving the material conditions of exploited groups.\u201d  <\/p><cite><strong>Joshua Sealy-Harrington<\/strong>\n\nAssistant Professor, Lincoln Alexander School of Law, Ryerson University<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In this video, Professor Jamie Liew of the Common Law Section at the University of Ottawa\u2019s Faculty of Law and Professor Joshua Sealy-Harrington of the Lincoln Alexander School of Law at Ryerson University discuss Critical Race Theory from two different perspectives. Delving into her research on citizenship and stateless persons, Professor Liew examines CRT in the context of statelessness resulting from colonial governance in Malaysia.
