This kind of critical reflection, he suggests, is essential to exploring methodology in research as it is the job of the researcher to constantly question how things are done and consider their ramifications. \r\n\r\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this video, Dr. de B\u2019beri uses the Amistad example to explore how critical reflection can alter our understanding of a concept like property and open up new ways of thinking about concepts like race and power. This kind of critical reflection, he suggests, is essential to exploring methodology in research as it is the job of the researcher to constantly question how things are done and consider their ramifications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cWhat we experience today did not start today. There are historical ramifications, and if we want everyone to understand, if we want our students to be educated, if we want to progress in a world where knowledge can guide us, we have to be inspired by our stories from the past.\u201d <\/p>\n<cite><strong>Dr. Boulou Ebanda de B&#8217;b\u00e9ri, Ph.D.<\/strong>\r\nSpecial Advisor on Anti-Racism and Inclusive Excellence for the University of Ottawa; Full Professor, Department of Communication, Faculty of Arts<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-theme-palette-8-background-color has-background\">The 4th Autumn School on the Methodology of Research in Law was hosted by the Faculty of Law\u2019s Common Law Section in November 2021. Building on the recent Autumn School tradition of bringing established scholars together with emerging researchers and students to discuss the hows and whys of research in law, this most recent school was centred around the expansive topic of inclusive research.
