Entitled \u201cSciences, Savoirs et Soci\u00e9t\u00e9s\u201d, the Congress brought together over a thousand francophone and francophile scientists at the University of Ottawa in July 2024.<\/p>\n\n<p>In this post, Professor Pablo Kreimer looks at the language issues associated with the globalization of science. He highlights the distinction between the so-called \u201chard\u201d sciences, where English is the dominant language, and the social sciences. He explains that the different audiences for certain disciplines motivate many scientists to publish in English and in their national languages.
