The Process of Consolidation of Federal Legislation

John Mark Keyes provides an overview of the legislative review process at the federal level and explains the rationale behind it. The last revision of federal legislation took place in 1985. A distinction must be made between the statutory review process and the statutory consolidation process. The Minister of Justice of Canada maintains a consolidation of statutes and regulations that consolidates all of the legislation in one place. The Government of Canada’s Legislation website provides access to the consolidation of federal statutes and regulations in both official languages.
