The Cabinet Directive on Law-Making

The federal Cabinet has issued a directive on law-making that outlines for public servants the expectations of the Government of Canada with respect to the development of legislation. The directive sets out the principles that underlie government law-making, explains the roles of stakeholders, outlines the key steps in the process of developing departmental legislative proposals, and addresses specific issues surrounding legislative drafting.
